Uthman Khan is a dynamic researcher and scholar with a passion for exploring the intersection of identity, power dynamics, and diverse worldviews in the context of social media. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Alberta, where his research focuses on the impact of social media on religious identity and the experiences of individuals who challenge conservative interpretations of Islam.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Uthman brings a multicultural perspective to his academic pursuits, having grown up in a diverse cultural landscape. His unique blend of personal experiences and academic rigour shapes his approach to understanding complex societal issues.

Uthman's research delves into the ways in which Muslims who challenge conservative interpretations of Islam utilize the power of social media to actively engage in identity politics. He explores the challenges they face, including experiences of religious trauma, and sheds light on the pivotal role that social media plays in shaping their evolving identities. With a particular emphasis on Canada, his research contributes to a deeper understanding of how identity politics influence journeys away from conservative interpretations of Islam and their impact on the broader discourse surrounding religion, culture, and identity.

Uthman's commitment to transparent and comprehensive research is rooted in his personal journey, which includes overcoming significant challenges, such as homelessness and personal transformation. His academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies and a Master's degree in Islamic Studies, specializing in Muslim/Christian Relations.

As an emerging scholar, Uthman Khan brings a fresh perspective to the study of social media, religious identity, and cultural diversity. His work aims to foster inclusivity and understanding within religious communities, challenging orthodoxies and embracing the richness of diverse worldviews.
